PATIENT SAFETY ASSOCIATED WITH THE STERILIZATION OF MEDICAL DEVICES.
In this monthly session, Patient Safety Associated with the Sterilization of Medical Devices, we had the honor of having the presence of Lic. Patricia from the AMPE Chihuahua chapter, we also had the honor of having Lic. Fabiola Casas, president of AMPE -COMPE President of the Latin American Federation of Hospital Sterilization Sciences FELACEH, Project Manager of Process Integration for Sterilization Assurance. Central Sterilization Auditor in Latin America and Asia; She has experience as Chief and Director of Nursing in private institutions in Mexico City, Vice President of the Latin American Sterilization Society.
In this event we had the opportunity to learn the importance of sterilization methods, as well as the importance of all sterilization centers having such evidence-based scientific information, Ema Surgical Center concerned that health personnel know this information summoned the different hospitals of Cd. Juárez, since we have the presence of health personnel from IMSS #35. IMSS #6, Hospital Ángeles Cd. Juárez, Star Médica among others.
We had the opportunity to learn about the different high-level disinfectants, and why they should not be used, the consequences of using these solutions whose consequences are avoidable, the life time of surgical instruments, the prevalence of errors due to programming and the lack of equipment which leads us to commit omissions which ends in the rise in the rate of infections in the surgical site. The doctor must be aware of the time for washing, preparing and sterilizing the instruments, this must be carried out between the Equipment and Sterilization Center, Surgical Nurse and Programming. The conference was very dynamic since some colleagues from the different hospitals shared their doubts, which were covered by Lic. Fabiola Casas, who answered questions at all times.
We learned about the adverse reactions of the different sterilizing agents such as: Ethylene oxide, which is carcinogenic and mutagenic, Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor, Water Vapor, Formaldehyde Vapor. At the end of the session, the health personnel, as well as the speakers, tasted dishes and desserts, which thanked the Group for such a wonderful topic and notable speakers at the Latin American level. At the end of the conference, we went to the facilities of the EMA Surgical Center, which did us the honor of giving us a tour of the facilities, which expressed their astonishment and stated that they were delighted with the facilities, which adhere to the established standards. .
